But once a business becomes established, a whole new set of challenges arise that can’t be solved with pizzas, caffeine and an all-nighter. Strategy, governance, compliance and HR capability are all features of a business that wants to continue to grow, in addition to the perennial challenge of funding that growth. WREDA (formerly Grow Wellington) will share insights drawn from the hundreds of businesses it engages with every year in the Wellington region. We will also propose that a coordinated effort to support ‘Scale-ups’ is needed to realise the massive potential these businesses have to contribute to the economy

Dr. Grant Lumsden is a Sector Development Manager at the Wellington Regional Economic Development Agency (WREDA). Prior to joining the agency he had a 25 year career in new product development within the automotive industry in the UK and Australia. His technical focus areas were engine management systems and hybrid driveline development.
